This " Picasso's Posters " rare vintage 1971 first edition Mid Century Modernist lithograph print collector's Pablo Picasso landmark volume extra large hardcover art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The Mid Century Modernist hardcover art book with red linen covered boards, embossed cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Random House, Inc., New York. Printed in Switzerland in 1971 by Basler Druck-Und Verlagsanstalt, Basel, compiled by author Christopher Czwiklitzer. It features a monograph survey of the poster artworks of Pablo Picasso.
This is a rare opportunity for true Pablo Picasso and Mid Century Modernist fans and collectors both as this beautifully presented extra large format lithograph print art book is long out of print and very scarce to find.
Pablo Picasso ( 1881 - 1973 ) was a Spanish born painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, poet and playwright who spent most of his life in France. He is regarded as one of the most important and influential artists of The Twentieth Century. Exceptionally prolific throughout the course of his long life, Picasso achieved universal renown and immense fortune for his revolutionary artistic accomplishments.
One of the lesser known aspects of Picasso's many-faceted genius is his mastery of the art of the poster. His work in this field is revolutionary and far reaching. This landmark volume contains two distinct sections presenting these poster artworks.
In Part One : Original Posters from 1948 - 1966, there are 53 full page " tipped-in " lithograph print plate illustrations, and in Part Two : Posters by Various Reproductive Methods from 1939 - 1971, there are 244 illustrations, including 31 in color. Combined, these reproductions are virtually all of his important work in this field at the time of publishing when Picasso was 90 years old. The originals of which many were supplied by Picasso, are faithfully reproduced in his original colors.
This first American edition landmark volume book begins with three compelling essays by Jean Adhemar, Charles Perusseaux, and Christopher Czwiklitzer. It is completed with a chronological index and a geographical index in which the posters are classified by city where exhibition was held, museum of gallery, title of exhibition, and date. In all, these posters are a mirror of Picasso's creative work, clearly showing the radiating genius of one of the greatest artists of The Twentieth Century.
The rare out of print extra large format Mid Century Modernist art book measures 10 1/2" W X 13 1/2" H X 2 1/18" D, with 370 pages. It is printed on premium paper stock featuring 297 illustrations.
