I recently acquired a small collection of original broadsides from a gentleman who grew up in Wisconsin in the 1960s and then moved to California in the early 1970s. These were broadsides he collected from his time growing up and from my research, I believe some of them are one of a kind pieces. They were hung up for short windows in Madison Wisconsin and California advertising a particular event and then as was usually done, they were taken down and thrown out. The ones I am offering this week are excellent original graphics and a must have for any collectors. This one is really special. A c1971 showing of 2 of the more famous freakshow movies including the great work by Surrealist Salvador Dali. I love the way it has the original shot of the famous "Eyeball" scene on the poster. From the research I have done, the film society was an underground film house that showed art films and other similar works. One of the first places to show Andy Warhol's movies. Broadside measures 17 x 11 inches. Pinholes in corners and a small tear upper right and lower left. A few small marks as well but otherwise really great condition. Most probably one of a kind. University of WIsconsin fought with the Film Society as well as the locals in Madison getting the police to tear down the posters when they were hung in town or on campus.
