This is a great piece. I have had one other work by Susan Rowland in the past and I recall that it sold quite quickly. That is why when I saw this painting, I was excited to purchase it. In actuality, this work is better than the one I had last time, and I believe it is better than most of the others I have seen out there by the artist. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included her biography below. This is a wonderful abstract expressionist oil on paper measuring 21 x 28 inches. Signed and dated lower right corner. Outstanding as painted condition. Matted and framed as the way it was done by the Linda Durham Gallery in Santa Fe where this was original acquired. Just the complete presentation of this wonderful painting. Frame measures 28 1/4 x 35 3/4 inches.
For those not familiar with the artist, her biography from a gallery that sells the artist's work reads: "For more than 40 years, Rowland pursued an artistic path of bold experimentation and passionate expressivity. This collection surveys Rowland’s development following her move to Brooklyn in 1986; a move that precipitated the artist’s significant shift and expansion of her creative practices past the confines of abstract painting. During this period, Rowland dedicated herself to mastering the art of individually crafted ceramics. Parallel explorations of large-scale drawing and the monoprint furthered her efforts to push the technical and creative boundaries of traditional glazed stoneware. Created from the artist’s distinctive formal vocabularies of gestural abstraction, drawing, and collage, Rowland’s sensual and sensitive vessels and figures operate as both functional objects and potent metaphors of the tensions between the visceral and the visionary. less
