This exceptional woodcut is by Manuel Izquierdo (1925-2009). Izquierdo was born in Madrid, Spain, but moved to the U.S. in 1942. He spent most of his adult life in Oregon. There, he became a noted printmaker and sculptor. He exhibited widely throughout the Pacific Northwest. His work is also in the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
The print is large and beautifully made. It measures 27 in. x 20 in. the image (31 in. x 24 in. the sheet). It is printed on a very high quality and heavy Fabriano paper. It is titled, numbered, signed and dated in pencil in the lower margin – Marine Garden, 55/100, Manuel Izquierdo 1980. The print is in excellent, never-framed condition. less
