This Vincent Van Gogh very rare vintage 1954 Mourlot fine art lithograph print custom framed iconic Paris exhibition poster " Thatched Cottages at Cordeville " 1890, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print poster is published by The Orangerie Des Tuileries Museum in Paris, Ministere De L'Education Nationale - Editions Des Musees Nationaux. Printed in France in 1954 in an unnumbered limited edition by Mourlot Imp. Paris, on the occasion of the " Et Les Peintures D'Auvers-Sur-Oise " exhibition. It features an iconic artwork image originally created by Van Gogh in 1890 titled " Chaumes De Cordeville A Auvers-Sur-Oise " ( Thatched Cottages at Cordeville ).
Vincent Willem Van Gogh ( 1853 - 1980 ) was a Dutch Postimpressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western Art. In just over a decade he created more than 2000 artworks, most of which date from the last two years of his life. They are characterized by bold colors and dramatic, impulsive and expressive brushwork that contributed to the foundations of world Modern Art. Van Gogh's works are among the world's most desirable and most valuable paintings to have ever sold. Today he is honored and celebrated the world over as on e of the most important painters of all time.
The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by The Mourlot Family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithography printing, and one of their most important contributions was to be the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared and produced as works of art in their own right. Mourlot became internationally known for their originality, beauty, and exquisite craftsmanship.
This landmark fine art lithograph poster is one of the most iconic and desirable of the collaboration and lost lasting partnership between Atelier Mourlot and The French National Museums, who together would create many important art posters. An example of this same poster is held in the permanent archive collections of some of the most prestigious museums worldwide.
The Musee Orangerie Des Tuileries is an Art Gallery of Impressionist and Postimpressionist paintings located in The Tuileries Garden in Paris. Napoleon III had The Orangerie built in 1852 to store the citrus trees of The Tuileries Garden from the cold in the winter. Later in the 1920's it became most famous as the now permanent home of masterpiece artworks by many of the most important French Impressionist and Postimpressionist artists.
The original artwork " Thatched Cottages at Cordeville " was painted by Van Gogh in 1890 a few weeks before the end of his life while in Auvers-Sur-Oise, north of Paris. His ground breaking images of the peaceful countryside of Auvers transform the landscape subjects as no other artist had ever done before. the powerful artwork stands out in Van Gogh's overall oeuvre as on of his most important masterpiece works.
The rare out of print fine art lithograph print framed Paris exhibition poster measures 22" W X 30 3/8" H X 1 1/2" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern satin finish bleached white oak wood museum box style frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " very clean vintage condition consistent with age, very light signs of handling, and very light minor surface wear.
