Chinese porcelain wide guanyinzun, a finely formed, wide, baluster shape vase with a vibrant, red and white glazed exterior and a white glazed interior and inset base. A large band of mushroom head, Ru Yi lappets, bracketed by red and white trim circles, decorates the short neck. The neck flange below is banded by red and white, cloud and thunder meanders. Four, stylized, Denglong, dragon heads, breathing fire, alternating with ganoderma, Ru Yi sceptres, on a pebbled ground, are quartered on the upper body of the vase. The decoration of the lower vase is separated from the upper by a bold band of red accented with white dots. Very large, ornate, Ru Yi lappets, accented with cloud and thunder meanders, chevrons and dentils, encircle the lower vase. A Kangxi, unmarked, double circle is glazed to the inset base. The large, finely carved, traditional, Chinese hongmu stand is included. Circa Republic of China era, no later than mid century.
Denglong dragon: Legend has it that Denglong is one of the sons of the Dragon King, and has the habit of guarding. It symbolises sending the will of heaven to humans, and delivering the conditions of the people to the heavens. There is also legend that says Avalokiteśvara rides on a Denglong, thus the name Chaotianhou. In Accounts of Marvels (simplified Chinese: 述异记; traditional Chinese: 述異記), it recounts Denglong as a creature from East China Sea, it can eat the brains of dragons, hover in mid-air, and is very fierce. When it is in a fight with another dragon, it spews flames for few dozens of feet, and defeats that dragon. It helps to drive away evil from its owner, defends against ill-meaning wishes, takes away bad fortune, and gathers and guards wealth.
