We are offering a rare pair of antique Dinka house post sculptures from southern Sudan. These came out of an estate sale and the couple mentioned they came out of a museum deaccession (deaccession is when a museum sells part of its inventory to raise money or if a museum is closing).
House posts acted as house foundation as they supported the hut/house weight. They were also carved as these are as they seem to have acted as a decorative piece of the house.
The Dinka people are native to Southern Sudan and are a Nilotic people—indigenous to the Nile Valley.
The tallest is near 8 feet high.
Circa: 19th Century
Condition: Consistent with age.
