If glasses can be said to be 'cool', then these are the coolest!! Produced in the 1930's and 40's by Libbey for the Rock Sharpe Line of cut crystal, the pattern is "Wreath" and I think this form, the tall saucer champagne or sherbet glass, shows this gorgeous pattern to best advantage. Relatively rare and hard to find today, they evoke the 'Brutalist' aesthetic of the 'mid-century modern' era.
Made in America by American glassmakers, at the height of American power and influence!
They are large, with a chunky block stem and a wide, deep bowl and flat foot. The bowl is cut with a large wreath of laurel leaves. They are of a good weight and feel great in the hand. The glass is very clear, colorless, and luminous and reflects the light dramatically.
Highly polished and finely finished, these really are magnificent!
