They date from the late 18th century and and are in overall very good condition. Hand carved from limewood they have wonderful overall detailing. Only traces of the original gilding remain with the surface mostly showing the white gesso base coat or the bright orange primer used for the gilding. As is typical of altar sticks of this period, they are three sided with only the two sides facing the congregation having been fully carved and gilded to conserve materials and cost. They have some splits and other minor damage, see photos, but this is monor considering their age. They were found in Tuscany. See less
