This is a highly sought after and collectible original poster produced on the occasion of a major Joseph Beuys exhibition held at the Anthony d’Offay Gallery in London in 1980. The poster features a portrait of Joseph Beuys by Andy Warhol. The celebrated and very influential Beuys explored the role of the artist as modern day shaman helping to heal the world and humanity through his expanded definition of art to include performances, happenings, installations, social sculptures and activism. Andy Warhol captures him in his signature fedora hat looking directly at the viewer with his intense piercing eyes in an image that’s been inverted, like a photographic negative, emphasizing his otherworldly aura. The poster was designed by Heiner Bastian, the well known art historian, curator and gallerist, and it brilliantly unites two giants of post-war contemporary art. less
