Most likely, the mundane everyday items used in this work of art are representations of the pursuit of labor, education, reading, math and science. The skill and artistry of visually fooling the viewer comes to us in the time honored tradition of the great Early American troupe l'oeil painter, Charles Willson Peale. A true jewel that probably dates the work to the Mid-19th Century from the Upstate New York or New England. Unsigned.
