This statue was purchased from the artist, Francesco Morelli, in Gubbio, Italy, in the mid-1990s, and is in as-new condition. The object is signed on the bottom, 'Morelli Gubbio Italy.' (see photo of an identical statue in the studio)
This beautiful object is approximately 16” tall (statue & base), with a base that is approximately 6.5” long x 3.5” wide. Before packing, this weights approximately 4.5 lbs.
The workshop of La Forance Del Bucchero, translated: The Bucchero Furnace, was begun by Marisa Brancaleoni, who specialized in highly artistic objects in the reproduction of the Etruscan bucchero. Her son, Francesco Morelli, carries on this ceramic-making technique.
Bucchero, a distinctly black, burnished ceramic ware, is often considered the signature ceramic fabric of the Etruscans, and was perfected over 2,500 years ago. These pieces and objects are still, today, created in the old furnace.
I have used Google to translate the small, Studio paper descriptor included with the statue:
The Bucchero Furnace

Gubbio, Italy, in the Umbria Region
Our production of Etruscan-Greek style buccheri
Bucchero
•Shiny black ceramic typical of the Etruscan-Greek culture, obtained by firing at over 900 C, in a closed oven and in the presence of carbon-rich materials.
•The manual technique of preparing the pieces makes use, as in the Etruscan-Greek era, of a lathe for the shape, of boxwood sticks for the impression of the shine, of scribes for the engravings.
•The clean 'form', made shiny and engraved with gold decorations, will take on, with fire and carbon, the prestigious black shine of our buccheri.
Quality guarantee and tradition
