Tapio Veli Ilmari Wirkkala (2 June 1915 – 19 May 1985) was a Finnish designer and sculptor and a major figure of post-war design. Made in Finland, this plate is part of the Utima Thule Iittalia glass collection created by Wirkkala in 1968. Inspired by melting ice springs in Northern Finland, the unique ice glass technique makes organic natural shapes evocative of ice formations.
