"Traveling in Maine" is an original landscape oil painting on canvas that captures the beautiful contrasts of a remote trail in Maine.
In creating the painting, I was drawn to the soft and rocky terrain which reminded me of the the strength and tenderness I find in nature. Employing a rich palette of colors and brushwork the painting unfolds in a semi-abstract and emotionally vibrant way.
Beautiful indigo blues meet with warm amber hues of the trail as it ascends into the background. Deep green pine trees are portrayed with simple motifs that anchor themselves in the soft chalky white sky. The foreground notes of burnt orange and rose colored brush bringing a bit of surprise and delight.
Paring the landscape down to it's essential elements, as I experienced it, offered an opportunity to explore the vista with a more simplified approach on canvas. As mentioned above the painting contains a lot of visible brushwork which adds a textural quality to the piece and mirrors much of what the trail embodied as I walked it.
This was created on a gallery wrapped canvas that is signed. This can be framed or left unframed. less
