The vase has a calming presence, inspired by zen empathizing Japanese pottery, with its mildly curved tapered silhouette, soothing colour and defining ribbed vertical lines.

Gunnar Nylund, (Swedish, 1914-1997) served as the artistic director at Rörstrand ceramic studio from 1931–1955. He became well known for his signature matte feldspar glazed stoneware. Prior to his work at Rörstrand, he was a well-established ceramic artist in Denmark at Bing & Grøndahl, and later founded the ceramic workshop Saxbo, in partnership with a chemist Nathalie Krebs. less
