Incised wood carved beauty, perfectly sized for use as a sewing or craft storage basket box or to simply display as a fabulous décor accent. The “basket” is actually a wooden box that has been crafted to emulate the look and shape of double interlocking handled rattan baskets that were all the rage in the mid 20th-century, however, this cutie hails from the late 20th-century. All around incised rattan trim; butt hinges on the back with an interior ribbon catch to prevent the top from opening too far back and placing stress on the hinges; double interlocking bent bamboo handles are wrapped in rattan twine. Handcrafted from solid wood with an incised lotus flower motif; color is a light to mid-tone tobacco stain finish with intentional rustic whitewashed distressed accents. It measures 12¼” x 8½” x 9¼” W/D/H; interior 10” x 6½” x 5” W/D/H; weight 3 lbs. 4 oz. In excellent condition with age-appropriate wear. Since wood is an organic material, it shrinks across the grain with age and there is a slight split in the wood on the left side center of the top which does not affect its integrity or beauty (see photo 4). Maker and country of origin unknown. A fabulous looking piece that will add an element of boho chic charm in any space!
