This Phillip Evergood rare vintage 1962 lithograph print iconic Terry Dintenfass gallery " American Contemporary Still Life " exhibition poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection. The lithograph print exhibition poster is published by the famous Terry Dintenfass Gallery new York City, printed in an unnumbered limited edition in 1962 on the occasion of the iconic exhibition " American Contemporary Still Life ". It features an original still life artwork created by Phillip Evergood in 1962 titled " Bouquet of Flowers ".
The iconic Dintenfass Gallery exhibition " American Contemporary Still Life " included the artworks of the artists Phillip Evergood, Jacob Lawrence, Milton Avery, Andrew Wyeth, William Dickey King, Paul Suttman, Sidney Goodman, Robert gwathmey, Raymond jemings Saunders, Antonio Frasconi, Leonard Baskin, Julian Levi, Rapahel Soyer, Walter Murch, and Sophy Regensburg among others.
Phillip Evergood born Howard Blanski ( 1901 - 1973 ) was a Jewish American painter, etcher, lithographer, sculptor, illustrator, and writer. Evergood is noted for his deliberately awkward drawing and his spontaneous bold lines. His skillfully organized sophisticated compositions are often humorous, frequently fantastic, and sometimes openly symbolic. The artworks are never conventional but rather evoke an extremely personal mood that reveals the artist as both militantly social and warmly sensuous.
In 1967 The Whitney Museum of American Art held a retrospective exhibition of the artworks of Phillip Evergood. Artworks by Evergood are included in the collections of many prestigious museums including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art New York, The Tate Gallery London, The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, The Whitney Museum, and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among many others.
Terry Dintenfass ( 1920 - 2004 ) established her first gallery in 1954 where she sold the work of Milton Avery, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Ben Shahn among others. She was a part of a wave of women art dealers who worked the new York art movement from the 1940's to 1980's. She was the last generation of women dealers who dominated the New York art world during the 1950's to the late 1970's.
Terry took a keen interest in social and political issues. She showed the works of African American artists including Jacob Lawrence, whom she would represent for 25 years. Dintenfass notably represented African American artists at a time when Manhattan galleries displayed little African American art. The " Social Realist " painters Phillip Evergood and Robert Gwathmey helped shape the gallery with a strong social consciousness.
The rare out of print vintage lithograph print exhibition poster measures 18 1/2" W X 26" H. It is printed on high quality archival watercolor type paper stock with a matte finish, and intentional subtle hand torn top and bottom edges.
