The handmade enamel designs are skillfully executed but retain the charm of original artwork which never appears to be as perfectly symmetrical as machine-produced products. It still appears new and has no chips, cracks, or scratches. It is ideal as a centerpiece and may be used for wrapped chocolates or wrapped after-dinner mints. The plate and bowl are decorated with matching designs and artwork. The bowl has little felt pieces glued to its bottom side to protect the plate under it or any other surface where it might be placed. One may choose to use them separately and in different locations in the home. They are made in China and shipped to chain stores that carry fine furniture and art decor. This set was purchased at the Bombay Company. The enamel surface is not flat but three-dimensional. The rims of both the bowl and plate are gilded. The background colors of the two alternating sections are navy blue and burgundy. A free gift is included with this plate and bowl set. It is a porcelain Takahashi bowl made in Japan. It measures 5.25" in diameter across the top rim and is 2" high. Only wrapped candy or chocolates are recommended as food to be placed on the surface of the set, but the small bowl may be used for unwrapped after-dinner mints and look appealing to try one. less
