These traditional African chairs were inspired by the chaise à palabra and designed specifically for travelers. This handmade hardwood chair is made from two pieces that fit together to form a portable chair. The chair is hand-carved and features mothers working in a pastoral setting with sun, mountains and a large bird. The carving was surely done been done by African artisans and is a detailed piece of folk art.

This stunning chair shows signs of use -- the seat is worn smooth as are the sides of the top piece near the handles where it would have been carried. The two pieces are solid wood and heavy but slide apart and together simply.

As an added bonus, It's surprisingly sturdy and comfortable to sit in.

The backrest measures 47" tall and 12" wide. The seat measures 30" long and about 10" wide.

This vintage palaver chair is an incredible piece of West African art and represents African artistry and craftsmanship. Makes for an amazing statement piece (and conversation piece) in any room. It will be noticed! less
