The painting began with a simple plant that had wonderful variegated leaves of fuchsia and green that really popped in contrast to the white pot they emerged from. The color pink drew my attention enough to decide to accentuate that color by draping more of it around the pots base using fabric. It was as this point that the story began for me.

In my minds eye I felt myself lounging somewhere in the tropics on a bright sun lit day. In the distance, cabanas on the sandy beach draped with sheer white fabric floating on the current of a soft breeze. Tall palm trees offering shade and respite from the brilliant sun with a wealth of exotic plants and colors that only nature could provide.

The paintings vibrant palette exudes a feeling of warmth and light. The simple shapes defined by line characterize the shadows, leaves, arcs and spaces creating a sense of design and texture. Shades of blue and violet bring a bit of contrast and surprise to this enchanting still life. less
