- This is an extraordinary piece of Peking glass that dates from 18th Century China during the rule of the Qing … more This is an extraordinary piece of Peking glass that dates from 18th Century China during the rule of the Qing Dynasty. It measures a very large 15” W x 2”Deep. There are no chips , cracks , or scratches . Jesuit missionaries brought this technology to China from Italy. They made this color Peking glass to imitate high end jade. It became a very popular medium for artists. The golden age for Peking glass dates to the rein of the Qianlong Emperor in the mid 18th Century. Peking glass is overlay carved glass created by layering material around a core, similar to cameo glass, the glass blower makes the shape then dips the shape into a basin of liquid glass several times. This creates layers that can be carved into shapes. This piece is very rare for the size. less
