For your consideration… A nice antique French porcelain tea set, made at Limoges by Gerard DuFressis.
It is marked with … more For your consideration… A nice antique French porcelain tea set, made at Limoges by Gerard DuFressis.
It is marked with his initials impressed in the porcelain on the base.
The DuFressis family worked closely with the Havilands in the early years, first as decorators, and then went on to found their own company. Whether this was made by Haviland for Dufressis or was potted by DuFressis himself, is unclear, but it is certainly an early piece dating to the middle years of the 19th c.
Tea Pot Measures about 6.5" in diameter, 9.5" tall. Holding approximately 6 cups.
Large sugar bowl measures about 5.5" diameter, 8" tall, and the creamer about 4" by 5.75".
There are two lovely serving plateaus that company the set from a different maker but they
had been used by the same family as a set so we thought to leave them as they worked so well together
Beautifully gilt decorated with leaves and flourishes and lacy flowers at the rims and borders, and with delicate floral bouquets of hand painted enamels over transfers across each
Each measures 9.5" wide, 9.5" long and stands 2.25" on a footed pedestal base which is also decorated.Each plateau has an old repaired break, which we have shown
All the pieces are beautifully hand painted with wildflowers and grasses on both sides and the top, and with gilt enhancements at the spout, handle and rims. All pieces are in very good condition, with no damage, just some gilt rub to the rims and handles. less
