Born in Baden, Germany in 1828, manufacturer Charles Silberzahn emigrated to the United States in 1850. In 1873, Silberzahn became, with John Michael Kohler, a founding partner in what would become the Kohler Company, initially a manufacturer of agricultural implements but now an internationally recognized producer of bathroom fixtures. Silberzahn split with Kohler in 1879 and took on a partnership in the West Bend Foundry and Machine Shop, which was first established in Washington County in 1859 by French immigrant Louis Lucas. less
