For your consideration… This marvelous teapot is a reproduction, hand made in Europe by Hutschenreuther, sold in the gift shop at Mt. Vernon by special order, no longer available, and quite rare. Copies of Martha Washington's 'States' china have been produced by many makers since the Centennial in 1876, but we think this likely dates to 1950 and the fundraising done to rebuild Mt Vernon and save it from demolition.The teapot rims, handles and spout are richly embellished with gold, the lid features the snake chasing its tail, and the front features the starburst, laurel wreath enclosing the initials, MW, and the banner inscribed "Decus et tutamen ab illo" in Latin - "our union is our strength against him" referencing King George. The details are all hand painted.
Measures about 6" diameter, stands about 5.25" tall.
It is in very nice condition, free of damage or wear, though it appears the painter of the snake brushed against the rim, leaving a dark spot. I think it adds to the charm of the piece less
