This linoleum print is a modern original arrangement of two bottles created by Mary Abouchaar. It depicts two bottles side by side, one on the right standing upright, and one on the left bending down with its opening facing downward then turning towards the right with its bottom overlapping the bottle to the right. There are two elliptical shapes, one above the bent bottle on the left, and the other placed under it at the center of its turning point. They are the two openings of the bottles designed to balance this modern arrangement of the bottles.
The first step in creating this print was to draw the design on the linoleum sheet. The second step was to carve out the grooves in the linoleum that would remain the same color as the rice paper and not hold any ink. After a roller was used to pick up some black ink, it was rolled over the carved linoleum sheet to cover it with ink. Then the linoleum sheet was applied to the Japanese rice paper and pressed down to print the drawing of the two bottles on it. This linoleum print is #2 of 7 total original prints. The printing instructor had placed two empty glass bottles on a small table at the front of the classroom as a still life arrangement that the students would draw on the surface of a linoleum sheet, then carve it out, then fill it with ink, and finally apply it onto Japanese rice paper to make a print. This framed print has a double mat, an inner one colored light blue, and an outer one colored charcoal gray. less
