An elongated curved stem continues up and to the side until reach the shade. Lamp has some degrees of adjustability. (The shade can be rotated forward to backwards a bit. Lamp itself can also be leaned to one side or the other. Please note the shade on this is largely solid- focusing the light into a small area. See less
