I love, first of all that it is asymmetrical, as well as that is is oiled and does not have a shiny shim. It looks and feels natural.

The interior of the box is not as smooth as the lid, the lip and the exterior. There is a very thin red “felt like” material attached to the base of the interior and exterior. It is a VERY THIN textile that is attached flawlessly. This is not the regular thick felt.

The internal lid has other gorgeous burl with a rounded asymmetrical fitting to connect with the base box. Fits like a glove.

Every aspect of this outstandingly remarkable burl wood box is beautiful and absolutely unique, inside and out.

I do not know when it was made, just guessing at late 20th century due to the textile used. (?) This was absolutely made by an artist, not an amateur. Details show everything. Alas, no signature… less

This damage is only on the exterior lid, not the box. As you can see from the photographs, the surface structure on the internal lid is perfect and pristine. Could be repaired with whatever is used to oil/seal this type of burl wood box that would make it look flawless. I am not knowledgeable what to use thereby, did not want to do anything to destroy it’s integrity, value and beauty. There is an internal line in the box, that waves to the top of the box (near to where the lid sits) and a line from there that extends to the outside of the box. This is burl wood and it is all is intact. Structurally sound. I try to take the best photos and give the best descriptions, but would be more than happy to answer questions and sends more photographs. less
