Japanese Woodblock by Hasui Kawase "Snow at Shinkyo Bridge, Nikko" Original numbered from his first batch.
Hasui Kawase (1883-1957)
A printmaker who, along with Ito Shinsui and Yoshida Hiroshi, was a standard-bearer of the new printmaking movement. To revive the declining Ukiyo-e prints in Japan, he established a new style of Ukiyo-e prints called "Shinpanga" together with Shozaburo Watanabe, a publisher. He was a leading figure in modern landscape prints, traveling throughout Japan and producing many prints based on pictures he sketched during his travels. He has been called a "traveling poet," "traveling printmaker," and "Hiroshige of the Showa era" for his lyrical style of expressing beautiful Japanese landscapes.
