Andre Derain ( 1880 - 1954 ) was a major Twentieth Century French artist, painter, and sculptor and co-founder of The Fauvism Art Movement with Henri Matisse. Derain and Matisse worked together in the summer of 1905 in the Mediterranean village of Collioure in France. Many of his paintings were Mediterranean landscapes ; and would represent the height of his career as a Fauve artist. Art works by Derain are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.

The vivid, unnatural colors led the art critic Louis Vauxcelles to name their works as " Les Fauves ", or " The Wild Beasts ", marking the start of The Fauvist Movement.
