This Henri Matisse rare vintage 1946 first edition Fauvist fine art lithograph print " Paysage De Toulouse " 1900, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The fine art lithograph print is published by Editions D'Art Albert Skira, Geneve. Printed in Switzerland in an unnumbered limited edition by Roto-Sadag in Geneva on December 15th in 1946, as part of a 1st edition Swiss portfolio of Matisse lithograph prints From the Treasures of The French Painting Collection directed and presented by Albert Skira. With an important memorable essay in French language by Louis Aragon titled " Matisse : Apologie Du Luxe ".
The Fauvist lithograph print features an artwork image originally created by Matisse in 1900 titled " Paysage De Toulouse " ( Landscape of Toulouse ).
Henri Matisse ( 1869 - 1954 ) The French born artist is known for both his sense of color and fluid aesthetic. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Picasso as one of the most important artists who helped to define and influence radical Contemporary Art of The Twentieth Century. His mastery of the expressive language of color and drawing won him recognition as a leading figure in world Modern Art. Artworks by Matisse are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The lithograph print plate image measures 10 1/2" W X 7" H, on a page that is 14 7/8" W X 11" H. The print is attached to the page with a method called " tipping " where it is attached by hand on the top edge. Behind the print plate on the page is the title, date and size of the original artwork.
The rare out of print 1st edition Fauvist lithograph print is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and light wear. There is a small light crease in the lower left corner of the print plate image. It has never been framed. Please see photos for condition reference.
