This well-listed landscape and seascape painter maintained a studio in St John's Wood, London. Over the course of a long career, he traveled extensively throughout the British Isles to record his subjects, which included well-known and much loved views of England, Scotland and Wales.
Between 1868 and 1903, Gallon was a frequent exhibitor at the most prestigious London galleries including the Royal Academy of Art (1873-1903) and the Royal Society of British Artists. Between 1880 and 1924, Gallon also exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, the Walker Art Gallery, the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
Gallon's paintings can vary in style and range from loose and painterly compositions that focus on atmospheric conditions to more detailed and precise views with much attention given to detail. His realistic works are reminiscent of the style of Benjamin Williams Leader and George Vicat Cole.
