Made circa 1960s in the Tang dynasty style, this is a unique and very eye-catching pair of Bactrian (or two humped) tomb candles, They bear a grotesque face on each of the saddles and gorgeous gilt details throughout.

Tang dynasty tomb figures were placed in the tombs of the wealthy in China during the Tang Dynasty to protect them from evil. These camels each bear a "grotesque" face ... a type of spirit object to frighten away the bad spirits.

The detail on both of these tomb camels -- from head to tail -- is intricate and the paint is still bright, vivid and in great shape. These vintage camels are real show stoppers, whether you collect Chinese or mid-century art objects. Add some drama and international flavor to any room with these white and gold trim camels.

They each stand about 17" tall and about 15" long. There are a few very small paint chips in a couple of the feet but overall these mid-century camels are gorgeous and definitely conversation starters. See less
