This is a Great Looking and Unusual Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Spirits Jug. Circa Late 19th Century. It is Not Marked but it is an Approx. 1 Gallon Liquid Capacity Size. The Front is Embossed with he Original Massachusetts Merchants Name - Reads "JOHN LYONS COR BEACH & SOUTH STS BOSTON MASS - REGISTERED" ( Corner of Beach and South Streets Boston Massachusetts ) on a Unusual Lightly Speckled Salt Glaze Exterior. Note That it Also Has Nice Blue Under Glaze Highlights to Accentuate The Lettering. Also Note the "REGISTERED" Mark Indicating that The Jug was Used for Liquor - Spirits. Back in the day these type of jugs were on loan to customers from Retail Merchants such as Liquor Stores, Druggists - Apothecary's, Dry Goods & Grocery Stores, Etc. They could used and refilled with a variety liquids such as Ciders - Vinegar - Liquors - Spirits Etc. It is in Very Good Overall Original Condition - Strong and Sound - Displays Nicely.
