Description: An original oil painting on canvas by Charles Smith, British artist 1913-2003, "Strand-on-the-Green '83 (1983)", scene of the village pathway … more An original oil painting on canvas by Charles Smith, British artist 1913-2003, "Strand-on-the-Green '83 (1983)", scene of the village pathway with two small boats pulled to the shore of The Thames River, people on the walkway, a bridge across The Thames with the misty city to the rear, the scene represents the year circa 1910, signed Charles Smith and dated '83 in the lower left corner front, 14" x 18", CA number 3935, CA purchased winter of 2023 from a British auction house. An old exhibition label indicates the painting was displayed at The Chelsea Art Gallery and was originally priced at 90 British Pounds. The label also indicated the title, date, artist's affiliation - FRSA (Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, London), and address of 237 Bedford Hill, Streatham SW11 1LB.
The framing is new, 3/4" white linen liner and 1 1/4" gold over red square frame. The painting has been cleaned and varnished to protect the paint film.
Strand-on-the-Green was one of London's four medieval villages, now it is located in Chiswick. less
