This Andy Warhol very rare vintage 1978 iconic Pop Art lithograph print custom framed collector's Mid Century Modern exhibition poster " Double Marilyn Monroe " 1962, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Pop Art poster print is published by The Greenberg Gallery, printed in 1978 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the " Castelli at Greenberg " exhibition January 15 - February 28, 1978. It features an iconic portrait artwork image of actress Marilyn Monroe originally created by Warhol in 1962 titled " Double Marilyn Monroe ".

Andy Warhol ( 1928 - 1987 ) is one of the singularly most well known Contemporary artists of all time. His imagery is recognized worldwide. His infamous life, art works, and creative endeavors are like no other artist. He is credited as the very first artist to use common everyday objects and view them in a completely different way while paying homage to their role in our society. Glorifying the common as the beautiful. His technique utilizing a silkscreen method combined with hand finishing in a signature palette of vibrant color hues make the work stand on its own and loved by millions.
Warhol's " Double Marilyn Monroe " 1962, is from one of the artist's most sought after acclaimed portfolio series. The image is based on Gene Korman's photograph pf the starlet, a promotional photo for the 1953 Film Noir Niagara. The bold coloration of the artwork recalls the saturated hues of the technicolor world in which Marilyn Monroe's career skyrocketed. The result is an inspiring exploration of the symbol of Marilyn Monroe as a Pop icon and cultural figure.
The Greenberg Gallery, one of St. Louis's first Contemporary Art galleries was founded by Ronald K. Greenberg in 1972. The gallery brought to the midwest some of the most important and influential Contemporary artists in the art world. Often collaborating with the world renowned Leo Castelli Gallery in New York City, who played a formative role in launching the careers of the most significant artists of The Twentieth Century.
In 1978 The Greenberg Gallery presented the landmark " Castelli at Greenberg " exhibition. The exhibit featured art works of The Castelli Gallery luminaries Frank Stella, Dan Flavin, Jasper Johns, Donald Judd, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Kenneth Noland, Claes Oldenburg, Cy Twombly, and Andy Warhol. This exhibition poster print is from that landmark exhibition.
The rare out of print framed Mid Century Modern exhibition poster measures 27 1/4" W X 22 1/4" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern slim profile detail museum box style matte eggshell finish black metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and very light minor surface wear.
