It is … more Native American Polychrome Pot that measures 9”H x 6 1/4”W and has a beautiful colorful design on it. It is signed Mrs. Lorencita Pino (1899-1986) a listed artist. She came from a family of artists, her mother and father were both well known artists, also her husband. She was active in the Santa Fe Market from 1961-1979 and won a special award for a 15” Polychrome vase painted by her son Joe D. Pino. In 1979 she won 1st place for a painted bowl of birds. Lorencita made polychrome and black ware bowls and vases, some with effigy frogs and lizards on them, a large one of which sold for $6100.00. She also made micaceous jars and red on buff Muna( the Rain God was modeled on the Muna). Her favorite designs included snakes, frogs, birds, clouds, and flowers. A Pueblo pot is made from scratch, they make their own clay out of rocks that they grind up and add pottery shards to for structural support. They grind the rocks and shards to make a fine powder and add water to make the clay. Then they make the clay bottom of the pot first using a pot for the pattern. Then working their way up the pot, they add coils which they have made and flattened, building up the sides of the pot. Then they stretch and shape the pot and start to trim. The pot is left to dry and the slip is applied with a piece of cloth. Then the pot is painted, one color at a time and polished. Then the pot is fired. This pot is fun and colorful,it reminds me of fancy dancers, and it looks great in a display with black pottery. less
