Description: A fine quality and fanciful Rococo border glass mirror with gathered palm frond surrounds rising to a crest of branches … more A fine quality and fanciful Rococo border glass mirror with gathered palm frond surrounds rising to a crest of branches and an openwork Rococo cartouche at the center. The inner moulding is remarkable for the large size of the handsome carved pearl beading. The sides of the mirror are carved and gilt wood and some normal shrinkage has occurred resulting in some separations. Small scattered restorations to these and to the top corners. Nice bright gilt finish with patina, normal wear with some gilt loss throughout revealing reddish clay undercoating and gesso. Original mirror plates with typical signs of age and delivering speckling. Wooded paneled back. Ca. Mid 19th century.
