Every year Tivoli invites a Danish artist to design the poster art for the coming season. The art for the poster of 1981 was created by Bjørn Wiinblad (1918 - 2006) who also is well known for his ceramics and paintings.
Tivoli is one of the world most famous amusement parks. The park is the second oldest amusement park in the world and is based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic stylish line. This artwork is differently true to his special line.
The views on his works are to this day very divided, but interest in his finer things are unrelenting - especially abroad (particularly the U.S., Japan, Germany and Norway). Bjørn Wiinblad's contemporaries were not exactly inclined to acknowledge his way to work, so his position as an artist has been a bit special. Globally, Bjørn Wiinblad is one of the very best selling Danish artists.
Bjørn Wiinblad has been called a jack of all trades, because he excelled in reinventing himself in terms of finding new places and new materials to decorate. Thanks to his skills – and his good head for business – he became one of Denmark's wealthiest artists in the 1960s and 70s.
He is represented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Bjørn Wiinblad was a Danish painter, designer, and artist known for his distinctive and whimsical style. He gained international recognition for his work, which often featured imaginative and decorative elements. Wiinblad was active from the mid-20th century until his passing in 2006
