This is a large scale Aubusson-style tapestry at almost 8' wide and 5' high depicting figures in Chinese dress enjoying tea besides a pavilion, with various attendants, birds and exotic flowers all contained in a lovely border. This particular panel is titled: 'Le Thé' from the series 'La Tenture Chinoise' (The Story of the Emperor), this is after a design by François Boucher and Jean-Joseph Dumons, and the originals were part of a series of six tapestries known as "La Tenture Chinoise". Originally these were woven circa 1755-1770, however, this appears to be a later rendition, reduced in size from the original composition, but still very decorative.
