This " Mark Rothko : Works on Paper " rare vintage 1984 first edition collector's Abstract Expressionist lithograph print hardcover exhibition art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with black linen covered boards, monochrome embossed cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Hudson Hills Press, New York., in association with The Mark Marko Foundation and The American Federation of Arts. Printed in Japan in 1984 by Nissha Printing Co. Ltd. on the occasion of the exhibition at The National Gallery of Art Washington D.C. and The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum New York.
It features a monograph survey of works on paper by the Modern Art Master Mark Rothko, with compelling accompanied text authored by Bonnie Clearwater Mark Rothko Foundation curator, and an introduction by art historian and critic Dore Ashton.
Mark Rothko ( 1903 - 1970 ) is an American Modernist painter of Russian Jewish descent. Although Rothko himself refused to adhere to any art movement, he is generally defined as an Abstract Expressionist. His bold use of color fields make the artworks impressively iconic and highly individual. Rothko is considered to be one of the most important and influential American painters of The Twentieth Century. Artworks by Rothko are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
This is a rare opportunity for true Rothko and Modernism fans and collectors both as this coveted stated 1st edition hardcover exhibition art book is long out of print and very scarce to find.
Mark Rothko, a monumental figure in 20th Century Art is universally known for his huge Abstract Expressionist paintings. Lesser well known are his works on paper, which he held on to most of these, remaining unavailable and largely unknown during his lifetime. The eighty-six exhibition artworks reproduced in full-color in this special volume date from the 1920's through 1969. Nearly half are from his final years.
The importance of this body of work is essential in the understanding of Rothko's overall oeuvre, charting the artist's quest for an elemental language that would communicate basic human emotions and move all mankind. The book text is illustrated with 29 additional Rothko works, 10 in full-color, illustrations plate list, checklist of the exhibition, artist chronology, and bibliography.
The rare out of print 1st edition Abstract Expressionist exhibition art book measures 9" W X 12" H X 3/4" D, with 144 pages. It features 117 lithograph print illustrations, including 98 in full-color, with 2 double sided multi-page fold outs.
It is in excellent " like new " very clean condition consistent with age and very light signs of handling. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price. less
