An original watercolor painting on artist's board by Helen Maughan, British artist first half of the 20th century, "The Mosaic … Read more An original watercolor painting on artist's board by Helen Maughan, British artist first half of the 20th century, "The Mosaic Lady" portrait of a lovely lady in a mosaic style in the art nouveaux fashion, Probably executed during the 1920's or 30's, 9 3/4" tondo, signed Helen Maughan in the lower right corner front, CA number 3934, CA purchased in the fall of 2023 from a major regional British auction house.
The work has been re-matted with Antique White Museum Matboard, Conservation Clear glass, museum backing, framed with 3/4" antiqued gold ripple moulding with an antiqued black lip.
There is no biographical information concerning Helen Maughan but she was a most talented amateur painter. The age of the work indicates it was executed in the 1920's or 30's.. The picture was originally framed by Bernard J. Stone of Newcastle-on -Tyne. Possibly Ms. Maughan was from that area. See less
