19th Century French Louis XVI Walnut Marble Top China Buffet is a masterpiece of the cabinetmaker's art! Meticulously hand-crafted from select French walnut, it features a stately, tailored architecture that is inspired by the classic styles of ancient Greece and Rome. An arched crown lords over the entire work, boldly molded and festooned with floral sprays in bold relief. Four rosettes appear above the corners and pilasters that define the three cabinet sections immediately below that comprise the upper tier of the piece. The left and right cabinets are finely molded and carved with floral sprays to complement the crown, and serve to provide a framework for the center door that is fitted with no less than nine beveled panes allowing one to view the contents displayed within. The upper casework rests on side supports that create a serving space fitted with a beveled mirror in the back to reflect ambient light, and a lush marble serving surface for carefree display and entertaining. Just below the marble is a triple drawer tier, with each drawer framed by rosettes matching those above, and fitted with cast bronze ring pulls. Lastly, below the drawers are three spacious cabinet doors that open to reveal a singular storage space spanned by one shelf across the entire width. Each cabinet door is also finely molded and carved in relief with floral sprays, with special attention paid to the design of the center, largest door. Cast brass key guards protect the keyholes on all doors as an added visual touch. Support is provided by urn-form legs.
