Set of four giclee reproduction prints of pink birds. Here we have two of the Scarlet Ibis at two and three years old and a Pink Flamingo and Roseate Spoonbill. All prints have the bird names in French at the bottom if you would like to do further study. The original prints we reproduced these from were hand colored copperplate engraving and our quality is so good they look like the real thing. These have been changed from our smaller set as we have removed the yellow/gold boarder line.
Image History: The giclee prints we make are from Francois Martinet's work with Buffon Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux. The work was published between 1765 and 1780 by Edme Louis Daubenton in France. Each plate features a delicate yellow border, which many believe led to the development of French matting.
Martinet was a prominent ornithological artist of the 1700s. He work closely with Count Georges-Louis Leclerc du Buffon on Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux. The work is considered one of the most influential bird books of all time.
The giclee prints are made in USA and we only use the very best acid free cotton rag paper and archival inks to insure the prints looks its very best. The ink has a light fastness of over 200 years so it promises not to fade in our lifetime. Our paper is imported from one of the oldest mills in England.
Size of each print is 18 inches wide and 24 inches tall.
This size allows you to use a standard size frame as the outer edge of the print/paper is 18x24 inches. If you are to use a mat the faux plate mark is at 14.15x17.4 and you would mat outside of the plate mark.
