It appears that some newer nails were introduced to the piece at some time in the last century although we cant be certain they are not blacksmith original. It features a scalloped table top and cabriole legs that end at a narrow point at the floor. the legs as well as all elements of the piece are hand whittled and are for the most part assembled and joined with wood peg construction. We believe that it is made of solid pine that has been stained nicely with a dark brown walnut stain which allows for rich wood grain to be shown beautifully. The table is surprisingly solid as if it were made using modern technology. We estimate this country style French antique table to have been made in the 19th century given the wood crafting and carpentry methods that are most obvious on the pointed toes of the cabriole legs as well as the carvings along the lines of the elegant bowed supports. The underside reveals the carpentry that reveals its age as well with pegs that are extended from the surfaces in which they are engaged. There is no makers mark or any markings that might identify the maker but this is standard for furniture from this era. This table is a fine example of expert wood craftsmanship from the expert hands of who was probably a master carpenter. We would describe this traditional item as semi distressed to the hand work markings that show some small uneven qualities and chisel marks along with and natural wood irregularities. This table is consistent with the farm house style and resemblance of other French Provincial Country furniture that was inspired buy the Louis XV motif, less
