Handwritten in Polish on back of one of the painting is "Na Gwiazens Dla Kochany" which
translates to "For Christmas my Dear". Also mentioned was "Svencionys", a city that was part of the second Polish Republic for most of the interwar period. It was a district in Wilno Voivodeship as Swieciany during Polish rule between 1920-1939. It had a significant Jewish population (according to the 1897 Russian census - 52%). These paintings were painted during the period under Polish Rule, prior to WWII and German occupation. less
