An excellent vintage First Edition full-color offset lithograph, print, after The First Meeting of the Iranian Prince Humay and Humayun, Daughter of the Khaqan of China. Printed on heavy wove paper, on one side, numbered. First Limited Edition. High-end quality. Excellent condition - never framed. Switzerland, 1940.
The original Persian miniature is circa 1420-1425, comes from an unknown manuscript containing the mathnawi of Khwaju Kirmani, Humay and Humayun, which was composed in Baghdad in 732 H. (A.D.1330). Early school of Herat. It has suggested that it may be by the painter Mirza Ghiyas al-Din, who accompanied Shah Rukh's embassy to China in 1420-1423. But it shows no evidence of the artist having actually visited China. Humay was led to seek Humayun in the far east by dreams in which she appeared to him and charmed his heart with her beauty.
