Other than a gentle cleaning, it has not been tampered with and left in the condition it was found in. It has a unique and all-natural patina. Any imperfections in the grain or craftsmanship are either innate or due to its past handling (see photos), and any wear is commensurate with its age. less

Offered is a unique and distinct artisan-crafted Mesquite wood lidded urn / jar/ vessel that has an inner carved tray that can be lifted out and removed and small bark inclusions on the top handle that was inlaid with crushed, powdered malachite., signed John P Heil, and numbered 099401 (illegibly), it comes with its authentic signature on the bottom, and its original description by the artist (that has been scotch-taped and photocopied to ensure legibility).
"Mesquite wood is a native Texas hardwood found mostly in the Southern, Central, and Western parts of Texas. Its color will range from honey to a dark reddish hue similar to cherry. I use mostly Mesquite wood for my turnings, however, I do use other native Texas wood, such as Pecan, Sycamore, Hackberry, Osage Orange, Magnolia, Maple, Persimmon, Oak, and others. All my turnings will have a number and wood type on the bottom of each piece..."
"To purchase one of my turnings shows your love for my artistic work and the same love I show in turning this piece. I do not stain or change the wood colors in any way. I try to use what nature gives to us. Also, I only use wood that has been removed due to storm and / or disease damage, home and business removal. I do not cut trees down for any of my turnings. - Joe P Heil."
According to research, Mr Heil was the president of the Texan Gulf Coast Woodturners Association in the early 1990s and organizer of the Los Amigos de la Mesquite craftshow events.
The urn measures 7.75 in diameter, 5.5" in height without the lid on, and 8.5" with its lid on. The interior has a removable round tray that measures 7" in diameter, and the interior chamber measures 7.25" in diameter and 4.25" in depth. less
