This Hans Hofmann rare vintage 1999 Abstract Expressionist lithograph Print custom framed Mid Century Modernism large museum exhibition poster " Summer " 1965, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The museum exhibition poster print is published by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. printed in The United States in 1999 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the exhibition. It features an Abstract Expressionist artwork image originally created by Hofmann in 1965 titled " Summer ", gift of Renate Hofmann 1991, copyright 1999 The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This is a rare opportunity for true Hans Hofmann and Modernism fans and collectors both as this coveted image large exhibition poster print is long out of print and very scarce to find.
Hans Hofmann ( 1880 - 1966 ) the German born artist, is one of the most important painters of The Postwar Abstract Expressionist Movement. His work is distinguished by a rigorous concern with pictorial structure, spatial illusions, and color relationships. He believed that Abstract Art was a way to get at the important reality. He famously stated that " the ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary that the necessary can speak ".
He was both an artist and educator with his own schools of painting in New York and Provincetown. His alumni included Lee Krasner, Helen Frankenthaler, Louise Nevelson, Ray Eames, and John Grillo among many others.
Major retrospective exhibitions of his work have been held by The Museum of Modern Art New York, The Tate Museum London, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, among many other international exhibitions. The artworks of Hans Hofmann are included in the collections of may of the world's most prestigious museums.
The rare vintage Abstract Expressionist lithograph print large format framed exhibition poster measures 23 1/4" W X 38 7/8" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern matte brushed brass finish gold tone metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, very light signs of handling, and very light minor surface wear in the text margin area.
