These 3 lovely African Hand-carved Sculptures include one masculine, strong depiction of a rhino which is more than likely handcarved out of African Ebony hardwood (or possibly Ironwood) and is finished off to a very smooth polish and two lovely giraffes with different natural coloring. African animal sculptures like these have become sought after items in many traditional households, and it would look amazing displayed in your library, on a bookshelf, atop a desk or perched on a few coffee table books. This trio belonged to my Mother who purchased them decades ago during her many travels around the world. Next month she turns 101 years old and has had them in her home for many, many years. Their exquisite carvings are even more beautiful than the photographs depict.
The gorgeous Rhino of African wood craft measures approximately 8.5" long x 3" wide x 4" high and is in excellent condition. The Rhinoceros is unsigned, but it is evident that the artist had first-hand experience with living rhinoceroses. Handcarved Rhino Sculpture is a masculine, strong depiction of a rhino which and is finished off to a very smooth sheen. It was made circa 1960-1975 and has a mellow brown patina obtained with age and with camel-colored wood showing through areas for emphasis and with normal wear. Beautiful wood tones on both sides to be admired no matter where it is displayed.
The pair of giraffes measure approximately 9” x 2.5” x 2”
The pair of giraffes are regal, humorous, and majestic. Each has a different expression with different coat coloring and are tall, slender giraffes carved out of a single piece of wood. Great textured tool marks highlight thee lovely coat slender neck.
