Description: A original oil painting on canvas by Gabriel Vie, French artist 1888-1973, "L' Aveyron a St. Antonin", scene of two … more A original oil painting on canvas by Gabriel Vie, French artist 1888-1973, "L' Aveyron a St. Antonin", scene of two women washing clothes on the shore of the Aveyron River near the town of St. Antonin, France, a house is visible on the opposite shore, a wooden area and mountains are in the distance, a beautiful sunny day, signed Vie in the lower right corner front, inscribed on reverse with the title and the artist's signature, 21 1/4" x 25 5/8", the work was probably executed in the 1950's or 60's, CA number 3926, CA purchased autumn 2023 from a major Scottish auction house.
The painting has been cleaned and varnished in order to protect the paint film.
The frame is original to the painting, a 3" carved outer frame with a 1" flat and cove liner in the traditional French Impressionist style.
The frame has a Frost & Reed (Bristol and London) label on the reverse with their inventory number of 15770, artist name, title and size of the painting. (F & R were excellent, respected dealers in original fine art.)
Other than his birth and death, very little is known about life of Gabriel Vie. Most of his work presents the French landscape and is known to have sold in France, England and the USA. less
